About Us

The fair began in 1972 on historic Custer Avenue. Each year since then artists, craftspeople, antique dealers, restauranteurs, entertainers and the business community get together with 120,000 attendees for this award-winning Northshore tradition.
Custer Fair is a program of Piccolo Theatre, Inc., an organization committed to providing shared experiences in the arts to strengthen community. Between 1998 and 2003, PTI restored the Main Street Metra Station, providing excellent commuter services and serving the community as a cultural center called the Piccolo Arts Depot, long-time home of the community-based theatre company Piccolo Theatre Ensemble.

In December of 2016, the organization moved its offices to a new location within the South Evanston neighborhood. You can read more about this move here For more information on the work of Piccolo Theatre, Inc. and how you can be a part of this community contact us at piccolocuster1972@gmail.com.

The fair was founded by John Szostek. It is currently managed by Steve and Tammy Szostek whose goal is to restore Custer fair back to the great fair it used to be.
